There are mainly three types of protection arrangements for capacitor bank. Element Fuse. Bank Protection. Manufacturers usually include built-in fuses in each capacitor element. If a fault occurs in an element, it is automatically disconnected from the rest of the unit. The unit can still function, but with reduced output.
The protection of shunt capacitor bank includes: a) protection against internal bank faults and faults that occur inside the capacitor unit; and, b) protection of the bank against system disturbances.
